Leamington Spa Wedding Photography - Nick & Leanne
I shot a wedding a couple of years ago for a lovely couple down in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. Sometime later, the brother of the groom reached out to me asking if I was available to photograph his wedding, which I was delighted to say I was. He loved the natural wedding photography I had captured for his brothers wedding and really wanted documentary photography for his wedding.
Nick & Lianne were getting married in the beautiful spa town of Royal Leamington Spa, a town I worked in for several years and know very well (I also knew my old company car park wouldn’t be in use on that Saturday in July). The venue for the wedding was to be the stunning Royal Pump Rooms, an 18th century Grade II listed building that used to be a spa bath back in the day but now is a beautiful venue and museum.
The day started with me heading straight to the venue for the ceremony. Usually my first task of the day is capturing the bridal prep but Lianne had decided she would prefer it if I started at the Pump Rooms. When I arrived the groom and his groomsmen were adding the final touches to their attire and admiring the gorgeous setup for the ceremony.
Unfortunately the weather was not brilliant but when the bridal party arrived the staff at the Pump Rooms were straight out with umbrellas to make sure not a hair was out of place. Once the bride had seen the registrar and everyone was in position the ceremony began. Lianne looked stunning walking down the aisle and her smile was beaming.
The ceremony was filled with laughter and tears as friends and family gave readings and the backdrop of the Royal Pump rooms made for a truly grand affair. After the ceremony the wedding party took the very short walk across the road and through the lovely Jephson Gardens towards the reception venue. The weather was still bad and the umbrellas were out in force. Nick, being the gentleman, made sure to keep his new bride under cover and, as they walked up the main path, I ran ahead to capture the moment.
Fun fact: Jephson Gardens was the location for the cover photo from Ocean Colour Scene’s ‘Moasly Shoals’ album.
The venue for today’s reception and the evening celebrations was the impressive Riverside Glasshouse located in the centre of Jephson Gardens with stunning views of the gardens and the River Leam. And whilst the weather wasn’t brilliant the covered veranda kept the guests dry as they enjoyed the champagne and entrees in the open air.
After the main meal and the hilarious speeches, especially from the best man (who was the brother of the groom that I photographed a few years before) the evening guests began to arrive and were ready for some serious dancing and celebrations. After Nick & Lianne took the dance floor to perform their first dance the live band did their thing and gave the guests plenty of amazing tunes to dance the night way.
