St Peters Church Wedding

Peterborough Wedding Photography - Gary & Helen

I was introduced to Gary & Helen by my good friend and amazing wedding videographer James Douglas Films. He had met them both at a wedding fair and had recommended me as they were looking for relaxed and natural wedding photography for their big day.

On the morning of the wedding I arrived at Helen’s lovely family home in Maxey, Peterborough where the bridal preparations and the wedding reception were being held. It was a gorgeous August summer morning and the marquee looked amazing in the gardens of the house. The bridal prep was in full flow and the ladies were having lots of fun with their hair and makeup artists.

Gary and his groomsmen meanwhile were getting ready at their home just round the corner. Normally I don’t get a chance to capture the groom prep unless it is happening at the same venue or is very close by so I jumped at the chance to capture some photos. The guys looked fantastic in their matching suits and personalised cufflinks and it was lovely to see the boys being included in the event.

Back at the bridal prep the final touches were being completed and Helen was being helped into her dress by her bridesmaids (whilst the flower girl was outside having fun on the bouncy castle). One everyone was ready and the very proud father of the bride had escorted her outside to the car I quickly left for the church.

St Peter’s in Maxey is an incredible 11th century church and the grounds looked amazing in the summer sunlight. I arrived before the wedding car which gave me the chance to speak to the vicar regarding the ceremony and capture some shots outside of the groomsmen and the guests. Then when Helen arrived I was ready to capture her arrival and her entrance into the church with her father.

Due to the type of service I was unable to shoot from the front which I normally do and had to be creative with my angles from the back in order to capture the moment. The ceremony was a very traditional affair and mindful of this I shot the whole ceremony using the silent shutter of my camera so I didn’t make a single sound. I was also able to move around the edges of the church and found a small space I could capture the all important kiss.

After the ceremony the wedding party all returned to Helen’s family home to a much needed cold welcome drink. The temperature had been rising all day and was somewhere between hot and very hot. Whilst the adults found shade and a cold one, the children entertained themselves with lawn games and the very popular bouncy castle, which was a big hit with the kids (and the adults).

Eventually it was time for the main meal and speeches. The insides of the marquee looked incredible and surprisingly cool compared to outside and the guests soon forgot the heat as the amazing food was served. Once the last course was cleared away it was time for the father of the bride to kick off the speeches and the toasts.

With all the formalities and speeches out of the way is finally time to kick off the shoes, take of the jackets and begin dancing and partying. The evening air was still lovely and warm and the guests soon spilled out of the marquee into the garden and once again the bouncy castle was calling the adults. And after the cutting of the cake and the first dance I left the very happy newly-weds to enjoy their celebrations.

Below you will find some of my favourite images from the wedding.
